Greetings from your President
By Zeev Lipkes
Dear Mariners Point Neighbors,
On February 5, 2015, my fellow Board of Director members assigned me the honor to serve this year as your President and I pledge to you to fulfill this role to the best of my abilities.
I want to thank Ken Clarence for having served tirelessly as President for the past four years and I am certain many homeowners share this sentiment. I also want to thank long-time resident Jim Ross for installing the solar panel behind the monument on Lonicera Street, therefore lighting up the Monument once again.
Allow me to introduce myself to you. My wife Lucy and I with our two daughters, Victoria and Elizabeth moved into this neighborhood three years ago and have enjoyed every day since. I am an engineer working for a local company in the fiber-optic communication industry.
In December 2013, I was elected to serve on the Mariners Point Board of Directors and was, until last month, the Association’s Vice-President. Since I am a strong believer in neighborhood activities including, but not limited to, social gatherings, I was instrumental in arranging a neighborhood picnic in May of last year. It was a well- attended event with more than eighty neighbors and their children spending a few hours together in neighborly harmony while bringing a vast variety of food items and soft drinks. I personally met many neighbors for the first time. So far, the Board has not decided whether or not we will be holding another picnic this year.
As President, I would like to see greater involvement by more neighbors in our Association affairs. For starters, we will be issuing periodic newsletters such as this one on a bi-monthly basis to inform you about Mariners Point issues and concerns. There is even a suggestion to have a Mariners Point facebook page where we can constantly communicate and update you on matters occurring in and around our area. The benefit of such a page is significant in that it is totally free and would not involve outside website consultants.
I would also like to see the formation of additional committees who could share with all of us items of importance. I am therefore looking for volunteers serving on a Newsletter Committee as well as Homeowner and Community Relations Committees.
Since the Board serves as Architectural Committee, the only other Committee currently active is the Landscape Committee with Ken Clarence serving as its Chairman.
I am asking you to contact me to offer suggestions as to what could contribute to greater neighborhood involvement and sharing of information all of us should be made aware of. If you want to write articles of common interests for future newsletters; provide tips for all homeowners; stories of Neighbor helping Neighbor; sharing photos of travels and newsworthy items within our City and County, please do write to me: zeevlipkes@gmail.com or call me at (858) 210-8050.
Several homeowners have asked me in the past if we could bring the neighborhood garage sale back. In my opinion, it would depend on how many neighbors would want to participate and we could only determine this by your response to me or the Board.
I am hopeful to receive many responses from you as I would very much like to see an increase in activities in our neighborhood by bringing neighbors together. I look forward to a productive and successful term as your president.
